Welcome to Brea's Brea Government

Brea cultivates an interactive form of government, where citizen involvement and volunteer participation are always welcome. One of the Brea Council's core mission statements is to Increase Breans Sense of Civic Ownership by committing Brea resources to proactive two-way communication, community outreach, long range planning and organizational excellence. Three standing citizen commissions directly advise the Brea Council, and other task-related committees are formed as needed to address changing issues and opportunities. Brea, one of the oldest communities within Orange County, was incorporated in 1917 as the city of oil, oranges and opportunity. Today, Brea is a bustling, but close-knit community of 40,000 residents, who enjoy a high level of public services rarely found in a smaller community.

The Brea of Brea operates as a “full service city,” providing a wide range of services including police and fire protection, water and sanitation services, construction and maintenance of streets and infrastructure, recreational, human services, and the cultural arts, as well as a proactive communication and community outreach program.
